Dr. John Zweifler

John Zweifler, MD, MPH

Dr. John Zweifler is a family physician with extensive leadership and administrative experience in medical education, quality improvement, and health care delivery. He has gained insights into the challenges facing our health systems while providing care in some of the most impoverished communities in America, ranging from the shuttered factories of Flint, Michigan to the rural farm working communities of California's San Joaquin Valley, with a particular focus on individuals who are unhoused, justice-involved, or struggling with substance use disorders.

Dr. Zweifler has written extensively about a range of health care topics. His fresh perspectives reflect his broad experience and illuminate the key issues in health care in a way that all of us can understand and relate to. You can access many of his published works on this website.

Dr. Zweifler is the author of several e-books available on this site including the just released Tipping Health Care 2024 and Pop Health, that explains our convoluted health care system and offers innovative, common-sense solutions and practical approaches to tip health care in the right direction.

He is also the author of the e-book, Management for Nerds, which is a self-help, how-to guide, both playful and thoughtful.

You can listen to Dr Zweifler speaking about Tipping Health Care in his "Film with Family" podcast appearance where he also discusses the movie "Sicko", as well as his prior appearance on "Film with Family" reviewing "Oppenheimer".

COVID-19: Population Health in Times of Crisis: Webinar Recording

Click below for a 45-minute webinar during which Dr. John Zweifler describes how population health is being used to creatively bridge some of the critical gaps in our healthcare ecosystem.

In normal times, the “fault lines” in our siloed healthcare system seem relatively benign. We’ve come to accept that the key players are “heads-down”, focusing on what they do best. The COVID-19 crisis has sharpened our awareness of the potential for population health initiatives to quickly and efficiently close some of those gaps when the stakes are so high and business as usual is no longer acceptable.
